Hi, I'm Troy Holloway.
A bit about me.
|
I've been drawing a long time.
I remember drawing cartoon birds and tractor-trailers on a little chalkboard-topped desk when I was a kid, and rushing to finish my worksheets in kindergarten so I could flip the paper over and doodle on the back. I drew things as gifts for my friends and my family, on whatever media I could find, of whatever I wanted. I once burned a Far Side comic into a countertop scrap using nothing more than a magnifying glass and sunshine (I may have also roasted a few unfortunate bugs with the same magnifying glass that same day). My other childhood artwork is still proudly displayed in houses, sheds, cabins, and outhouses in my hometown, and on at least three people who have had my work tattooed on their bodies! |
I was drawn to Architecture.
When I got a bit older, I decided to make a career out of drawing, and for four years I immersed myself in the art and science of designing buildings. My studies took me all over Canada, and enhanced my artistic skills through courses and studio work on technical and graphic communications. Following graduation, I continued to draw - on paper and on the computer - but my drawings were mostly for clients, consultants, and contractors. Although I was able to sharpen my design and technical skills, for a while, drawing was more work and less play. |
Now I draw all the time.
A few years ago, I was given a "365 Things to Draw" calendar. For a full year I drew a different thing every day. I experimented with graphite, ink, and coloured pencils, and explored all kinds of styles and techniques. One day might be a quick 10 minute sketch, another day might be a 3 hour study in pencil. This simple gift reminded me how much I love both the creative and the technical components of making art, so in early 2020 I decided to build a body of work to share with the world. hollowaystudio combines the things I love: nature, rural places, architecture, and art. It is where I experiment, and where I express what interests me. I'm excited that you're here, and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I've enjoyed making it. -Troy |
